Hey!

I’m a Boston based designer raised bilingual in Japanese. Graduated magna cum laude from the University of Massachusetts Amherst Honors College, class of 2024, with a Graphic Design and Sociology major and Criminology & Criminal Justice minor. I focus on bold graphics, illustration, and packaging.

Trained to work meticulously with my hands and a lifelong athlete, I bring physical precision to the exactitude of digital design. Although I work in a wide range of mediums, I take the greatest satisfaction in work that has a physical component.

Inspired by street fashion, graffiti, Lyrical Lemonade, eclectic physical objects, and bright color. Passionate about driving stick, chasing the sunset, and cleaning my J’s.

Møllen Museum Rebrand

Creative Direction / Brand Identity / Merchandising / 2023

Copenhagen’s Danmarks Tekniske Museum (Danish Museum of Science and Technology) has plans to relocate from Helsingør, Elsinore to Svanemølleværket, Nordhavn. These plans include not only a physical move but also a conceptual rebrand of the museum as a modern institution that honors Denmark as a high-tech society.

I created a rebrand of the museum centered around its future location, an iconic power station that stands out in the Copenhagen skyline. I changed the museum’s original name from “Danmarks Tekniske Museum” to “Mølllen,” a play on the Danish word “Møllen” which is derived from the building’s name “Svanemølleværket” and translates to “the mill.”

The logo is a visually recognizable simplification of the new building, and the emphasis on the three smokestacks is a nod to the progression of science and technology that match the museum’s new contemporary outlook. The logo is a recurring motif used as a pattern for posters and advertisements.

Copenhagen Royale Card Deck

Creative Direction / Merchandising / Package Design / 2023

A standard 52-card pack of playing cards that celebrates life in downtown Copenhagen, Denmark. The four suits correspond to themes of Copenhagen (castles, parks, towers, & “heart” of the city) and are shown in the aces of each suit. The number cards show icons related to the suit, and face cards display original illustrations of locations related to the suits. Danish language is incorporated into the deck and packaging, and the joker is a Swedish flag, a lighthearted nod to the notorious Denmark-Sweden rivalry.

“Highway” Lettertype & Graphic Activism Campaign

Branded Print Collateral / Audience Engagement / Information Graphics / 2024

This self-directed graphic activism campaign focused on road safety for Boston drivers, featuring a custom typeface and informative brochure. The project combined print design and typography to create engaging content that aligned with the campaign’s educational goals.

The typeface “Highway” was designed with attention to readability and accessibility, mimicking highway information light boards. The print-based deliverable, an informational brochure, combined user-centered design with infographics by replicating a parking ticket to connect with the target audience.

Prison Life: The Board Game

Print Production / Packaging Development / Game Design / 2024

“Prison Life” is a research-driven educational board game designed to systemically critique the US prison system through a chance-based format.

Born from a desire to combine my two passions of graphic design and criminal justice reform, I independently conceptualized, developed, and fabricated this Honors Thesis project in 1 year. Heavily grounded in research and statistics, the game incorporates Action and Event cards based on true prisoner experiences, allowing players to navigate the unpredictable nature of incarceration.

Featuring custom typography, branding, and packaging, the game’s design highlights its purpose as both an educational tool and a medium for social change, with “It’s not just a game” as its core message. This project required handling end-to-end design and production, involving custom illustrations, card layout, board and box design, as well as managing the entire fabrication process.

To learn more about this project, a 13-page research paper is available which delves into the full scope of the project, including its concept, extensive research, and detailed design process and decisions.

The Astrid Brand Book

Print Production / Brand Identity / Layout / 2024

A comprehensive brand book that showcases all aspects of my own personal design brand. The self-produced brand book contains brand statement, visual guidelines, usage rules, and examples of brand implementation. Printed and bound as a physical booklet with custom acrylic covers and featuring gradually elongating pages with each consecutive section, this project involved a deep focus on brand consistency, print production, and creative presentation.
